CELEBRATION OF OLD BEAUJOLAIS CRUS IN PORTLAND, OR, USA

In order to celebrate the Beaujolais week, Aurelien and Kellee FIARDET from TERROIRS ORIGINELS decided to organize a special Beaujolais Crus Vertical Tasting and Dinner in a fine wine bar “BAR AVIGNON” in Portland, Oregon in the US.

12 people from the trade and press have been invited to taste 6 Beaujolais Crus : CHENAS (Pascal AUFRANC), FLEURIE – MORGON - MOULIN A VENT (Lucien LARDY), REGNIE (JM DUPRE) and BROUILLY (Robert PERROUD) from five different vintages: 2013 – 2012 – 2005 – 1999 – 1995.

All the wines showed impressively well, the 2005 was still very young and full of energy and acidity. The 1999 and 1995 displayed a lot of characteristics from a Pinot Noir (cherry, stone fruits and spice) from Cote d’Or with still potential to age for 5 or 10 more years.

Yes Beaujolais Crus can age, and Beaujolais can make “serious” wines full of complexity and capacity to age. Young or old, Gamay from Beaujolais will always be “yummy” and “drinkable”. Cheers and happy Beaujolais!
