1) Stephen TANZER : FLEURIE “Les Chenes” 2011 Lucien LARDY 91 Pts.
A Father and his son, Yohan, making wines in Fleurie, Beaujolais A block of 70 year old vines near Les Moriers Whole-cluster fermented under native yeasts. 12 months aging in neutral oak.
“Brilliant ruby. Sexy, floral red fruit preserve scents are lifted and sharpened by a smoky mineral quality. Incisive, appealingly sweet raspberry and cherry flavors gain weight with air while maintaining vibrancy. The floral quality comes back on the finish, which lingers with very good mineral-driven persistence”.
2) WINE&SPIRIT MAGAZINE : Morgon “Le Griottier” 2011 Jean-Michel DUPRE : 90 Pts.
A passionate winemaker trying to reflect his terroir through his wines. Block located in Grands Cras surrounded by cherry trees . Schist and slate soil from Morgon, Fermented naturally and aged in concrete vats.
“With simple, airy strawberry flavors, this crisp wine seems to evaporate when it is first poured. It takes several hours before the meaty flavors and the depths of black tannin begin to show. This is made from a vineyard planted in 1935, whole-cluster fermented without added yeast or sulfites, it will need several years to fully evolve.”
